This small non-fiction book describes the journey of a single woman, her friend Julian, and the transformation of a small cabin in the woods of rural Vermont into a family home. The adoption of her daughter Amelia occurs later in the book and is only one part of this larger story. Anyone who has lived in a rural part of the Northern US will be quite understanding of the trials and tribulations that the author encounters along the way. Those living in cities will get a great education about the difficulties that may be encountered in living in rural New England. This tale should prove to be a great encouragement to any single person contemplating a China adoption. Here is a woman living in a cabin in the woods of Vermont with a bare minimum of utilities and an extensive job history who is able to bring her daughter home from China and complete the transformation of the cabin into a home.
