Deborah Addington, A Hand in the Bush: The Fine Art of Vaginal Fisting
(Greenery, 1998), paperback, 120 pages, $11.95

This is a beginner-oriented guide to vaginal fisting. If you have already been doing this for years, you're not likely to find out anything particularly new, but it is a fun read. For beginners, it offers a good guide to the anatomy, easing penetration, lubrication, positions, and more, along with the usual safety warnings. It is very well illustrated and in addition to the text includes several poems and many descriptions of personal experiences with fisting. In addition to fisting your partner, Addington also discusses mutual fistings, and how to incorporate fisting into bdsm play. There's even some short fiction and poetry on fisting.

If you're interested in strapping on a dildo, Greenery Press has also published a book that will tell you eveything you need to know about strap-on sex: The Strap-On Book. Not to be outdone, Cleiss Press has published the Ultimate Guide to Strap-on Sex.

Bert Herrman, Trust: The Handbook, A Guide to the Spiritual Art of Handballing
(Alamo Square Press, 1991), paperback, $12.00

This remains the best book out on the fine art of anal fisting. Herrman discusses preparation, enemas, and atmosphere from the perspective of both top and bottom. His instructions are specific and detailed and based on his wealth of personal experience with the subject. With this book, a fistful of lube, and some patience, you should have no trouble exploring your partner's nether regions. Herrman treats vaginal fisting in a short section, but there are much better places to look for information on exploring this territory, such as Deborah Addington's book reviewed above.

Jack Morin, Anal Pleasure & Health: A Guide for Men and Women
(Down There Press, 3rd ed., 1998), paperback, 250 pages, $18.00

Jack Morin, Ph.d. (psychology) covers everything you would ever want to know about the subject from sex, penetration, stimulation, and health problems. He even offers advice on finding an open-minded doctor. Still regarded as the best book on the subject, Morin offers a step-by-step program to help you relax and eroticize this taboo region. There are exercises to help you tone your anal muscles and tips on how to learn to control them voluntarily. While he covers fisting and anal sex in great detail, much of the book covers the emotional aspects of anal sex and working both by yourself and with a partner to demystify and eroticize anal sex. New for third edition is a discussion of power dynamics.

Morin has also written the Erotic Mind: Unlocking the Inner Sources of Sexual Passion and Fulfillment in which he explores how our passions are fueled and explains why even negative emotions such as guilt can be powerful aphrodisiacs.

Tristan Taormino, The Ultimate Guide to Anal Sex for Women
(Cleis, 1997), paperback, 150 pages, $14.95

This excellent book covers virtually every anal sexual activity from rimming to fisting. Morin's book is great for factual information, butit can be a bit dry. Taormino puts the fun back in anal sex. While it is targeted toward women, virtually everything she says applies to men as well. Like Addington's book (reviewed above), it includes numerous reminiscences and personal experiences, as well as illustrations by Fish. Taormino discusses preparation, safety, shaving, various lubes, toys, masturbation, how to maximize your pleasure from anal play, and more in a lighthearted, fun and easy to read style. There is a resource list in the back of the book.

If you're interested in strapping on a dildo, Greenery Press has also published a book that will tell you eveything you need to know about strap-on sex: The Strap-On Book.
