The House of Gord, Numerous Titles
If you haven't seen any of House of Gord's books, you should take a look. Most of them are short novels (about 100 pages) with about two dozen illustrations. All of them are male dominant/female submissive with a strong emphasis, or rather obsession, with fetishistic outfits. Many of their titles focus on the transformation of women into exotic creatures such as pony girls and other human animals. Many are nonconsensual; the women are kidnapped or otherwise coerced into life as leather or latex covered slaves. The writing is not too bad; the illustrations, often by famous fetish artists such as Benson, are superb. Most of their titles sell for about $20. They moved their entire operation to the United States a few years ago to escape Great Britain's censors. Their web site contains short extracts from many of their books, and also a few of the illustrations--more than enough to give you an idea if these books are for you.

Guido Crepax, The Illustrated Story of O (NBM Publishing, 1991), paperback, 96 pages, $11.95 Crepax has produced about a dozen graphic novels, all inspired by real novels. The Story of O trilogy remains the most popular. They certainly showcase some of his better work, but their popularity is probably due more to the enduring popularity of Pauline Reage's original Story of O novel than their superiority over his other books. The illustrations in these are quite well-done, but be warned, while the first two follow the original novel, the third does not. It depicts an older and wiser O who has discovered her top side and is out for fun and a bit of revenge. There is a book (The New Story of O) and movie with this same plot line. Crepax, Story of O Volume 1, Story of O Volume 2, Story of O Volume 3 Crepax's other books include Justine, Venus in Furs, and Emmanuelle. His works have recently been compiled into two volumes that together are the definitive collection of his work: Justine and the Story of O (440 pages ) and Emmanuelle, Bianca, and Venus in Furs (464 pages).

Milo Manaro, Art of Spanking (NBM Publishing, 1993), paperback, 96 pages, $17.95. Italian artist Milo Manaro is justifiably famous for both his adult and
other illustrated novels. His work is superb. He has produced quite a
number of adult books with an emphasis on forced sex rather than more
overt bdsm or fetish activities. The Art of Spanking is an exception.
In the Art of Spanking, the heroine is introduced to the joys of spanking.
First she's spanked herself, then she learns to dish it out. Also of interest to bdsmers is Gullivera in which Manaro retells the classic Jonathan Swift tale with a female protagonist. Gullivera gets tied up by the Lilliputians, manhandled by the giants, and dragged to a bdsm party by a group of sex-starved women I don't recall from Swift's original book. I'm not even going to discuss her adventures in the land of talking horses. (NBM Publishing, 1998), paperback, 72 pages, $13.95, Amazon Price: $11.16. The most famous of his other adult books are the Butterscotch and Click series.

Michael Manning, The Spider Garden Paperback (NBM Publishing, 1995), $11.95. This is Manning's first book, and in my opinion is still one of his best. Manning's beautiful, Japanese influenced black and white drawings have won him rave reviews. The Spider Garden tells the story of an hermaphrodite Emperor/ess and his/her court of pleasure. As always the scenes are imaginative, wild, and seriously bdsm. The sequel to this book is Hydrophidian which is even wilder, set in a palace under water, and populated by the most amazing creatures. In Lumenagerie ($9.56 from Amazon), Manning offers you an erotic bestiary of hybrid creatures divided into seven categories: Domina, Aviatrix, Canus, Gynandros, Equine, Servus, and Noctua. Cathexis ($12.95) is a collection of his shorter stories. All are deeply erotic, especially "Circe's House" in which a young man is enslaved, subjected to a variety of different torments and abuse, and transformed into a woman through corsetry and bondage. His latest book is Tranceptor which chronicles the amorous adventures of secret sisterhood skilled in both the erotic and the martial arts. Right now, no one in this genre is doing better work than Manning.
